This years exhibit was about space and astronomy. My booth was supposed to teach kids how scientists can defract the light from flares off the planets and by deciphering the spectrum of colors, figure out which gases the planets are made of. Whew! It was a lot for little ones and I think they mostly got RAINBOWS!
(Also, they really wanted these to be lasers, LOL)
This is Katelyn checking out my booth. I had light bulbs with different gases in them that lit up when you pushed the red button.
Each kid got these little cards that defract light, like a rain drop does to sunlight to create a rainbow.
When you looked at the light bulbs through the card, you could see the spectrum of colors that is unique to each gas and determine what was in the tube. You're looking at helium and neon there.
It was a long, fun day and Katelyn was REALLY happy that I came for her. During the afternoon, they had to write a sentence and draw a picture of their favorite part of COSI...Katelyn drew a picture of my booth and the booth where they looked at rocks with a microscope!
