Today, we got to visit Daddy at work! A few months ago, he was able to find a job working for a milk transport company and he's home every night now! He leaves for work very early in the morning, sometimes as early as 2 am! He picks up his truck, full of milk, and takes it to the dairy to get bottled into milk or turned into yogurt and ice cream. Then, once his truck is empty and washed out, he goes to the farm and fills it back up with milk! His truck can hold 60,900 lbs of milk, which is over 7600 gallons of milk!
(He drives a PINK truck! But if you ask him, it's fuschia.)
The farm has around 3,000 cows. They get milked in groups of 30, they have two rows like this, so 60 cows at once! They direct them into these milk machines and hook pumps up to the udders to collect the milk. We watched them do about 4 groups of cows today and they seemed pretty cool with the whole thing, apparently, cows love routines.
The tanks Katelyn is standing in front of hold 6400 gallons of raw milk, 2/3's of the tank are actually outside the building, they are HUGE! James has to climb to the top and take samples to test the milk and check the temperature before he can pump it into his truck, sometimes this farm gets 4 trucks a day! Then he has to clean the milk house while he waits for his truck to fill up.
The cows were very interested in Katelyn. This one didn't want to follow her group back to her pen, because she was too busy checking Katelyn out.
This is the milk house and barns from the road on the way to the farm.
