One of the "floats" at the parade on Saturday was a bunch of kids skating around a car, passing out fliers for a local skating rink. (Who even knew those still existed!) They have a kids night every week and Katelyn could skate for $2.50 and it sounded like fun, so we planned to go this week. It was her first time ever on real roller skates!
Nana and I had to help her get her balance and tell her what to do. She liked to pretend to fall, until she almost busted her chin on a railing and then she paid a lot more attention, lol! After we were there about half an hour, this teenage girl comes rushing up to us, to apologize for being late. (We were super confused!) Apparently, this kid's night thing includes a "teacher" to help the kids learn to skate. She said this week there really wasn't a class, but she would take Katelyn around and help her get her footing. This actually turned out to be really helpful, because Katelyn paid more attention when it was someone else teaching her and she was able to skate a bit by herself afterwards!
The "teacher" told us Katelyn did excellent for her first time. She said usually first timers need to have their wheels tightened up to make it easier, but Katelyn had all 4 wheels rolling and she learned how to keep her feet apart and stand up right away. Katelyn had a blast and she is already excited for next week!
